“Visualization.” What does that word mean to you? Is it what we do when we “see” something in our mind’s eye? Is it more? The Oxford dictionary states the definition of Visualize as “to form a mental image of; imagine” or “to make visible to the eye.” Clearly the metaphor of physical sight is the, erm…focus. I have to admit it’s fair. As the point of design visualization is to get project teams to stop wasting time writing requirements for systems they do not yet have a common vision of, then the eyes are the most efficient portal to get design information crystallized in stakeholders’ minds.
